In a move to consolidate its footprint among the BC, SC, ST and minority electorate, the ruling YSRCP is launching a ‘bus yatra’ on Thursday.
Ministers, legislators and constituency in-charges have all been directed to take part in the yatra which will be simultaneously kick-started from all the three regions of the state. The yatra will cover three assembly constituencies per day and the leaders would tour all the 175 constituencies over the next two months.
YSRCP is taking up the ‘Samajika Sadhikara Bus Yatra’ to highlight the party’s empowerment of SC, ST, BC and minorities. While the north coastal region yatra would commence from Itchapuram in Srikakulam, coastal region yatra would commence from Tenali in Guntur district. Yatra will start from Singanamala constituency in Kurnool district that covers entire Rayalaseema region.
“The yatra is aimed at bringing awareness among public on the schemes and programmes initiated by chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy in the last 4.5 years. The chief minister has been tirelessly working for the true empowerment of under-privileged sections in state,” said senior minister Botcha Satyanarayana.
He said they would explain to people the initiatives of chief minister which helped a large section of people. “Jagan is the first chief minister who openly declared that backward classes are backbone classes of the state, and embraced as their child. BCs owe a lot to the chief minister for the pathbreaking measures launched by him,” said housing minister Jogi Ramesh.
YSRCP believes that it has strong backing of the SC, ST, BC and minorities, thanks to the financial assistance extended to them through various welfare schemes since Jagan took over the reins of the state, party leaders said. Leaders would address small street level meetings during the bus yatra and spread the message of the party.
Social welfare minister Dr Merugu Nagarjuna said Jagan is not a mere administrator but a social reformer. He said many programmes particularly in health and education sectors were launched to empower the downtrodden classes including the children. “The programmes in education sector were not aimed at grabbing the votes. They have been designed to shape up the next generation children from the downtrodden sections,” said Dr Nagarjuna.
