Update to Advanced Clean Cars II
California regulators are fine-tuning a set of proposed draft rules that would ban the sale of gas and diesel vehicles by 2035. The proposed Advanced Clean Cars II Regulations (ACC II), if adopted, will tighten existing state regulations to reduce vehicle emissions under a wider range of conditions, ensure battery performance and support equitable access to zero-emission vehicles. The passage of these updated rules would be a huge win as the goal of reducing emissions is aligned with environmental justice priorities! The proposal was presented to the Board on June 9, 2022. After time for public comment, the Board is set to vote on ACC II on August 25, 2022.
Plug In America supports the California Air Resources Board’s ACC II proposal and urges the Board to adopt these regulations, with the amendments outlined in the 15-day changes. The best course of action for our air, climate, and people is for the Board to move forward with this amended regulation. While there are components of the proposed regulations that we want to see improved, we nevertheless urge the Board to vote through the proposal, and work with haste so that we outperform the sales requirements with additional measures and increase equitable access to zero-emission transportation.
