The Causes and Fixes of Tesla Trip Planner Issues!

There are a couple of reasons why your Tesla route planner not working in the mobile app or website. Even when using the alternative site, it may not operate. Let me share the possible causes and solutions below:

The Causes and Fixes of Tesla Trip Planner Issues

Reason #1: Software Mismatched

The Tesla Trip Planner not working on Model 3, Y, S, or X cars can happen when the firmware version doesn’t match with the car’s software. In this case, you’ll need to wait for an update and then download it on your car or mobile app.

How to Resolve?

Firstly, you’ll need to download the latest software on the car by touching the Controls and then Software > Software Update with an orange clock sign.

After that, wait for it to complete. In some cases, you may need to contact the Tesla Service Center and tell them to push an OTA software.

Next, open the Tesla App on your phone and then hit Software Update > Install or Yes. Then, let it download the new software fully.

Reason #2: Browser Issue

One thing that can also cause the Trip Planner to stop acting on Tesla is the browser problem. In that case, you’ll need to clear all the catches, restart the browser, or try a new browser.

How to Resolve?

If your browser seems to act weirdly lately to load a site, it’s a big sign of the browser bug. To fix it, simply clear the cookies or catches by going to the 3-dot button above or below and then click on History > Clear browsing data > select all > Clear Data.

After that, close and open the browser to try again. If still doesn’t work, download a new browser on your phone or laptop and try again.

Reason #3: Address Interfaces

The Tesla Trip Planner not working on Model Y, S, X, and 3 cars can occur when the address you are entering is not drop down. To make it work again, you’ll need to manually select the address from the drop-down list instead of copy and paste it.

How to Resolve?

Just close the website on your phone or browser and then enter it again. Then, you’ll need to select your car series and model properly and hit Done.

Then, type the location where you are in the Enter Location. Next, type the address where you are heading toward with your car in the Enter Destination.

In this case, you can also Add Stop where you want to take a break for charging or other purposes and enter the place in the additional Enter Destination section. After that, hit the Get Route and it’ll show the map within a few seconds.

Reason #4: System Glitch

Sometimes the car’s system fails to follow your command and stops working. This can happen when you are using the Trip Planner. If this is the case, you’ll need to do the soft and hard reset back-to-back.

How to Resolve?

Start with doing the soft reset by holding the 2 scrolls of the steering wheel or yoke for ten seconds. Then, wait for the black screen to come back.

At this moment, you’ll need to go to Controls > Safety > Power Off and wait for 2 – 3 minutes to ensure the power down cycle.

Now, open the front trunk and take out the top-panel storage. Next, remove the battery cover and detach the ground wire of the 12V battery.

After that, detach the HV loop plug and wait for 5 – 6 minutes before reinstalling all the parts. Then, get inside the vehicle and wait for a few minutes before hitting the brake pedal.

When you are using the Tesla Supercharger Trip Planner, it’ll suggest a stop at the close Supercharger. If you don’t want to stop there, just click Remove all charging stops (lightning bolt sign) at the end of the directions.

Reason #5: Lost Connection

Even if it’s rare to occur, the lost or poor signal of your cellular, Wi-Fi, or internet connection can cause Trip Planner to not work. In that case, you’ll need to turn off the LTE network and then turn it on or use the hotspot.

How to Resolve?

To begin with, go to Controls and click on the Wi-Fi option at the top-right section with the LTE bar icon. Then, click on the Wi-Fi network to turn it off and then turn it on again.

After that, go to Wi-Fi Setting > select your Wi-Fi network > Forget Network. Then, click on the cross sign on the top-left section to go back. And, again turn it on and enter the passcode.

Or, you can use the hotspot by turning on the mobile hotspot and then scanning the network on your car’s screen (Controls > Wi-Fi option with LTE bar icon). Next, click on the scanned network and then enter the password.
