Ashok Leyland has been working on the electric versions of their existing lineup of light and medium commercial vehicles. They are electrifying the vehicles under the brand Switch Mobility.
Switch Mobility is a technology-based company aimed at creating non conventional Light Electric Vehicles. The company is responsible for the EV operations of the Ashok Leyland Group. They make advanced mid-drive systems, breaking the technological barriers toward the mass adoption of EVs in India. Their aim is to eliminate the dependency of many Indian companies on foreign mid-drives and accelerate the transition to electric mobility.
This is an important year for Switch Mobility. It intends on launching five electric variants targeting the last mile logistics segment. The first of the five models was an electric bus, then followed by two new low bus platforms which were already unveiled at the Auto Expo, and finally the electric variants of Dost and Bada Dost LCV

Switch Mobility is likely to launch the electric versions of the Dost and Bada Dost Light Commercial Vehicle soon.
Currently, Tata Motors is the only predominant manufacturer that has commercially rolled out an electric LCV in the Indian market.
Ashok Leyland Group is all set to make an investment into its EV subsidiary to cater to it’s growth plans.
Dheeraj Hinduja, Executive Chairman of Ashok Leyland said that the company’s EV business under Switch Mobility is important for future-proofing the company. He mentioned that while they continue to look for external investors, the board has approved of an in-principle investment in Switch Mobility. He also mentioned that their balance sheet is strong enough to support this initiative. The EV market is growing gradually and the company is gearing up to participate in this growth.
