The Aurangabad Smart City Development Corporation Limited (ASCDCL) has decided to build a special depot at Jadhavwadi for charging and maintaining e-buses.
“The proposed depot-cum-workshop at Jadhavwadi will be able to cater to 300 buses. The facility is being raised considering the addition of more e-buses in the fleet of city bus service,” a statement issued by ASCDCL said.
While the design of the depot has been finalized, the financial outlay for the project and details related to the tendering process will be made public soon, authorities said.
It must be noted that the city is scheduled to get 100 e-buses as a part of the ‘PM-eBus Sewa’ initiative of the central government.
In addition, the civic administration has already initiated steps to get 35 e-buses on its own to strengthen the existing bus service.
Civic authorities said plans are also mooted to raise another depot for e-buses in addition to Jadhavwadi.
“The location of the second depot is not yet finalized. It will be planned in such a way that city buses moving towards Waluj and nearby city areas will be covered,” a civic official said.
