New Delhi: Aptera, a producer of solar electric vehicles, has begun the validation phase of its unique aerodynamic design in the famed Pininfarina Wind Tunnel.
Aptera is developing an aerodynamic car with three wheels, a high-efficiency motor, and a unique teardrop design. Aptera will test and validate its unique solar electric car design in conjunction with Pininfarina, a company recognised for its aerodynamic skills and collaborations with well-known brands like Ferrari, Rolls Royce, and Maserati.
Aptera’s solar electric car’s smartly developed aerodynamic features are critical to its high energy efficiency. These features enable the car to achieve an industry-leading range of up to 1,000 miles per charge and the ability to go up to 40 miles per day solely on solar power. Alessandro Aquili, Pininfarina’s Head of Wind Tunnel, emphasised the project’s enthusiasm and the synergies between Aptera’s design philosophy and the heritage of Pininfarina’s Wind Tunnel.
During the validation phase, the company will continue to enhance the aerodynamic elements of its vehicle platform to achieve optimal performance and economy. Initial correlation testing in the Pininfarina Wind Tunnel has aided Aptera’s computational fluid dynamics (CFD) work and offered important insights into the car’s design, which is expected to have the lowest coefficient of drag of any production passenger vehicle.
