NMC officials said they have already proposed setting up a special depot for the electric buses they are going to procure through private agencies.

After the Centre’s advisory to the Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) to improve utilisation of funds it has provided under the National Clean Air Programme (N-CAP), the civic body has decided to speed up the process of setting up the e-bus depot.

NMC officials said they have already proposed setting up a special depot for the electric buses they are going to procure through private agencies.

The project, which is estimated to cost INR 10 crore, will be covered under the funds received for N-CAP and it is to be built at the civic body’s truck terminus at Adgaon. The parking capacity of these bus depots will be 150 e-buses.

“There have been instructions from the centre to spend at least 70% of total funds received so far under N-CAP during the last four years and submit utilisation details within the next two months (by October),” said NMC officials.

“We have already started a tender process for procuring the electric buses and INR 25 crore under N-CAP funds are to be spent for this purpose. The tender process is in its final stage and an agency is soon to be finalized,” said NMC officials.
