Nikola Corporation has announced a strategic partnership with Bayotech, a leading provider of hydrogen production and delivery solutions. The collaboration aims to accelerate the adoption of zero-emission hydrogen delivery and bolster the infrastructure required for hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEVs).
As part of the partnership, Nikola Corporation expects to receive shipments of low-carbon hydrogen produced by Bayotech starting this year in Missouri, followed by California in 2024. This collaboration will enable Nikola to expand its reach and deliver clean, efficient hydrogen fuel to its FCEV customers across these regions.
To facilitate the transition towards greener transportation, Bayotech plans to procure up to 50 Nikola Class 8 hydrogen FCEVs for zero-emission hydrogen transport. These cutting-edge vehicles will serve as the backbone of Bayotech’s hydrogen delivery fleet, ensuring the efficient and eco-friendly distribution of hydrogen to various refueling stations.
In return, Nikola Corporation will purchase low-carbon hydrogen from Bayotech’s hydrogen hubs located in Missouri and California. This procurement strategy aligns with Nikola’s commitment to reducing carbon emissions and promoting the use of sustainable energy sources.
Furthermore, Nikola Corporation will acquire up to 10 Bayotech HyFill transports designed specifically for bulk hydrogen delivery to customer refueling stations. These specialized transports will optimize the distribution process, enabling the seamless and secure transfer of hydrogen to meet the demands of an expanding network of FCEV owners.
In a long-term commitment to sustainability, Bayotech has also agreed to purchase up to 50 Nikola Class 8 fuel cell electric vehicles over the next five years. The strategic supply agreement encompasses the integration of Nikola Class 8 hydrogen fuel cell electric trucks and Bayotech HyFill bulk hydrogen transport trailers.
