Alfa Romeo is readying a large all-electric SUV that will go head-to-head with the BMW iX
and next-generation Porsche Cayenne in 2027 in an attempt to win the brand new fans in
both North America and China – regions where Alfa Romeo has previously struggled.
Confirming the all-new battery-electric flagship is on the way to Autocar, the car-maker’s
boss Jean-Phillipe Imparato said the unnamed big Alfa Romeo will be based on the Stellantis
group’s all-new STLA Large Platform.

Instead of maximising space, it has been tipped that the Italian Cayenne rival will sit lower to
the road and favour on-road performance and handling over any capability in the dirt.
Expect the Alfa SUV to dwarf the current Stelvio (4702mm) and for the new car to measure
in at more than 5000mm long to help it appeal to Americans.
Offsetting its huge size (and weight), the STLA Large Platform will allow engineers to fit a
triple-motor powertrain that will see it comfortably produce more than 1000hp (746kW).
The new architecture also provides for an 800-volt electrical charging architecture that
should allow a 10-80 percent top-up take less than 30 minutes, even for the versions with
the biggest battery.
Range will be another highlight. Thanks to slippery aerodynamics, the largest Alfa ever
should be capable of covering more than 800km on a single charge.
Matching rivals from Porsche and BMW, when it arrives the Alfa should come with at least
Level 3 autonomous driving and levels of connectivity well beyond any current car in the
range.
As well as the large SUV, Alfa Romeo is also working on a smaller compact SUV to replace
the old Giulietta hatch.
