New Delhi: Lohum, an energy transition and battery materials firm has formed a strategic alliance with Log9, an Advanced EV battery technology company to address the mounting concern of sustainable battery disposal in the electric vehicle (EV) industry.

The collaboration intends to maintain transparency and accountability concerning the residual value of lithium-ion batteries. It further aims to enhance the life span of Log9’s annual production of 250 MWh LTO EV batteries after their initial usage, repurposing them for renewable energy storage.

Registered under India’s Battery Waste Management Rules (BWMR 2022), Lohum will aid Log9 in achieving its material recovery targets for LTO batteries.

A significant aspect of this partnership is Lohum’s DETX™, a battery asset trading platform. DETX™ offers detailed insights into battery material trade, allowing Log9 to reduce emissions from their LTO batteries and enhance their overall battery lifecycle profitability.

A distinctive approach by Log9 is its introduction of chemistry-based financing in EVs, focusing on the financial metrics unique to specific chemistries like LTO. This method has paved the way for the complete circular economy of Lithium-ion batteries by enabling collaborations with partners such as Lohum.

Vinay Iyer, VP – Finance at Log9, highlighted the company’s practice of battery tokenization. This ensures all batteries supplied for secondary usage have a digital usage data ledger, providing recyclers with accurate predictions of SOH for their input materials.

LTO batteries, researched and developed by Log9, offer advantages such as an extended cycle life, rapid charging, and enhanced thermal stability compared to conventional batteries.

Pankaj Sharma, Co-founder & Director of Log9, mentioned their goal aligns with India’s Net Zero ambitions. Through the DETX platform, Log9 aims for responsible recycling and repurposing of EV batteries, advancing their commitment to sustainability.

Rajat Verma, Founder & CEO of Lohum, emphasized their enthusiasm to augment the sustainable aspects of Log9’s LTO Li-ion battery technology. He stated that the collaboration would lead to safer eMobility solutions in India, promoting sustainable and hazard-free solutions for EVs and stationary energy storage.
