Volkswagen is pausing the production of a number of electric vehicle models at its Zwickau plant for an estimated three weeks due to a shortage of electric motors, the German automaker said on Thursday.
“The production of e-drives at the Volkswagen Group Components site in Kassel is currently only possible to a limited extent,” a spokesperson told Reuters.
Due to this limited capacity, Volkswagen said it will halt the production of the Audi Q4 e-tron, the Audi Q4 Sportback e-tron as well as the VW ID.4 and VW ID.5 models in Zwickau.
The VW ID.3 and Cupra Born models are not affected by the supply bottlenecks and will be produced as planned, it added.
Volkswagen announced in September that it would build its new generation of Trinity electric vehicles at the plant, which is currently suffering from weak demand and is in the process of cutting its three-shift production schedule that has been in place for more than three decades.
