Incoming 750kW Mercedes-AMG GT 63 sedan to debut AMG’s wild new EV tech to take on Porsche Taycan and Tesla Model S Plaid

Mercedes-AMG is hatching plans to bin the V8 and embrace new state-of-the-art, all-electric
tech for its next Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupe in a bid to create the world’s quickest
four-door sedan.

According to Autocar, work is already well underway to reinvent the AMG GT four-door
coupe to morph it into more of a rival for the Porsche Taycan Turbo S or Tesla Model S Plaid
– except the AMG product is set to be even quicker, and possibly more fun to drive.

Set to be the first car to benefit from Mercedes-AMG’s bespoke AMG.EA architecture, the
incoming high-performance EV has been rumoured to pack at least 746kW and 1356kW,
with some tipping those figures are on the conservative side.

Key to giving the big Benz huge power is not only the new advanced platform but also its
pioneering axial-flux in-hub motors.

Developed by Brit firm Yasa, which was subsequently snapped up by AMG, the new small disc-
shaped motors weigh just 24kg but, alone, can knock out 358kW/800Nm.

Mounted either within the wheel or on the outer edge of the axles, the new motors free up
space within, meaning the next AMG GT should offer Benz S-Class levels of space – but
that’s not why AMG chose them.

Already employed on the go-anywhere Mercedes-Benz EQQ rugged off-roader, the new axial-flux motors offer levels of torque vectoring on another level from today’s tech. This
should make the big AMG more agile than any big sedan in history and also enable it to drift
for Germany.

AMG hasn’t announced what its next AMG GT will look like but it’s thought last year’s Vision
2025 isn’t too far off the production-spec model when it comes to its sleek looks, size and
proportions.

Expect battery-powered AMG GT sedan to measure in around 5100mm, around the same
size as the current car.

Other new tech destined to head to the AMG GT sedan is a new slim-line energy dense
battery that will use a silicon anode material that’s claimed to offer a 40 per cent increase in
energy density over current graphite anodes.

Inside it’s been tipped the AMG GT will bag the full-width high-definition screen that was
previewed by the Concept One-Eleven.

When it’s launched in 2026 we expect the AMG GT 4-Door to come with at least Level 3
autonomous cruise control that, in certain highway conditions, will see the quickest-ever
four-door sedan mimic the latest S-Class limo and drive itself while the driver can read,
catch-up on emails or stream movies on the move without fear of having to take back
control.
