The MSRTC on Friday announced that it will temporarily hike fares by 10% in all its buses, including the popular Mumbai-Pune AC Shivneri buses, from November 8 to 27.

The fares will go up in the range of INR 5 to INR 100. The hikes, however, will be rolled back from November 28, and fares will go back to normal in these buses, said an official. In case of Pune Shivneri buses, the trip will be expensive by around INR 50 per passenger during Diwali, as per the circular issued on Friday.

An MSRTC spokesperson said that the corporation has permission to hike fares upto 30% during peak season — which is usually during festivals such as Diwali. For those who have made an advance reservation, the fare difference will be collected during the journey, the official added. The MSRTC has a daily ridership of over 55 lakh and operates buses from 250 depots across the state. Recently, it replaced nearly 80% of its Shivneri buses with electric noiseless buses. tnn
