Calling it a “historic moment”, the ministers, legislators, and senior leaders said the yatra will make chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy’s social empowerment slogan reverberate across the state.

Ahead of the 2024 elections, the ruling YSRCP launched its mass contact campaign with the Samajika Sadhikara (social empowerment) bus yatra from three places in the state on Thursday.

Calling it a “historic moment”, the ministers, legislators, and senior leaders said the yatra will make chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy’s social empowerment slogan reverberate across the state. “Representation given to SCs, STs, BCs and minorities in our government is unseen not only in the history of Andhra Pradesh but also India. They were given highest roles in all spectrums — political, social, and economic — as a matter of right,” Jagan said in a message on X ahead of the yatra. He said the government disbursed 2.38 lakh crore in the last 52 months of YSRCP regime, out of which 75% went to SC, ST, BC, and minority communities. Also, 50% of posts in nominated boards, committees, and trusts were reserved for these unrepresented sections by enactment of a legislation, the chief minister said.

“My government went ahead with determination to crown people from SC, ST, BC and minority communities despite the hurdles created by feudal forces led by the opposition parties. The state is going to witness a battle between SC, ST, BC and minorities led by YSRCP, and the feudal forces led by opposition parties. I sincerely hope the Samajika Sadhikara yatra will pave way for victory of the poor over feudal forces and landlords,” said Jagan.

Addressing a meeting in Tenali constituency, housing minister Jogi Ramesh said backward classes were fortunate to have Jagan as their chief minister as he has transformed their social status.
