BYD showcases five NEV models at the Japan Mobility Show 2023

At the Japan Mobility Sow 2023, BYD showcases five NEV models and a number of its advanced technologies. The focus of the event was the all-electric BYD SEAL sports sedan. It is scheduled to hit the Japanese market in Spring 2024. Atsuki Tofukuji, President of BYD AUTO JAPAN Inc. emphasized BYD’s unwavering commitment to innovation, citing technologies such as CTB technology, the e⁴ platform, and the DiSus Intelligent Body Control System, among others. He also reaffirmed BYD’s goal of providing the Japanese market with even more diverse options for vehicles with alternative powertrain systems in the future.

YANGWANG, BYD’s premium electric sub-brand, which presented its debut model YANGWANG U8 for the first time outside the Chinese market, provided additional enthusiasm. This innovative model made a “tank turn” at the event and wowed the audience with its groundbreaking technologies, excellent build quality, and futuristic design.

At the same time, DENZA, another BYD subsidiary, presented the DENZA D9, a luxury van in the upper class, which met with great interest. Japanese motorsport legend Keiichi Tsuchiya, known as the real inspiration for the iconic character Takumi Fujiwara from ‘Initial D’, the ‘Drift King’, and runner-up at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, caused excitement among the motorsport fans in attendance with his performance.

On July 21, 2022, BYD entered the Japanese passenger car market and has since undergone rapid development in the region. So far, BYD operates 15 showrooms in major cities such as Tokyo, Osaka, Yokohama, Hiroshima and Fukuoka. However, the company plans to open 2025 showrooms by the end of 100 to meet the increasing demand for new energy vehicles in Japan.

SNE Research reported that the global EV battery market has recorded a 38.6% YoY growth in Q1 of 2023. The total amount of energy held by batteries for pure EVs, PHEVs, and HEVs was around 133 GWh.
